Prince explains her passion for cannabis and why she entered the industry after a successful career in the general market. She describes how the cannabis industry is hyper-competitive and requires successful companies to bring their A game every day. Prince said that cannabis and hemp companies must put considerable effort into strategizing and crafting effective communications that go beyond fluff and sales-centric messaging.

Kim Prince from Proven Media: Star Maker

Putnam asked how Prince became the "star maker" (what one media outlet recently dubbed her), to which Prince responded that she is very selective in choosing clients and that they were all stars before she began helping them craft and share their stories to the marketplace. Bailey commented on the need for competitive companies to seriously invest in their communications strategy and to carefully consider their execution plans.

Prince explained that the current challenges facing the industry—particularly financial pressures—are actually a good thing. But only for those cannabis companies that consistently bring their best and that go beyond the fluff and shallow salesspeak of some misguided organizations.

Kim Prince from Proven Media: Be Consistent

She also stressed the importance of consistency and recommended that listeners avoid the pattern of many startups that launch with a burst of impressive communications and social media activity, but that then cease these activities after only a few months. Instead, savvy cannabis and hemp companies form practical and implementable strategies that can be consistently maintained.

Prince also noted that cannabis companies must carefully define their messaging and then serve only certain portions of their story to particular audiences in an iterative building of their brand story arc. She described how marketing professionals and founders must articulate their messaging vision in the form of concise documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs) that fully records their operational approach, brand identity, and marketing strategy.

Kim Prince from Proven Media: Positive Professionalism

Robbins praised Prince's "positive professionalism." He also recommended that listeners check out episode No. 29 of the Cannabis Commerce + Chemistry Podcast to hear Sarah Gullickson from Cannabis Business Advisors go into more depth regarding the need to document company policy and procedure in the form of SOPs and other documentation assets.
