McKay explains how she grew up in Alabama and held a prohibitionist mindset toward cannabis for the first part of her life. After a traumatic event resulted in grand mal seizures and pharmaceutical therapies delivered no improvement, McKay reluctantly experimented with cannabis at the recommendation of a friend. Her cannabis consumption led to her regaining her health, including zero current reliance on pharmaceutical drugs or opioids for pain management.
After discovering the wide efficacies delivered by cannabis, McKay decided to retire from a promising career in finance to launch MyTEPI, a startup focused on consumer education and product recommendations based on laboratory test results—not naming conventions such as indica or sativa or the cultivar (strain) names that are popularly touted by North American cannabis brands (which offer no consistency of experience for consumers and patients because they are not based in science).
