Welcome to Cannabinoid Clinic, an education project powered by Higher Learning LV. This series provides cannabis and hemp industry professionals with easily digested cannabinoid profiles that ask little of your time—but provide plenty of science-based information.
Phytocannabinoids & Endocannabinoids
There are two categories of cannabinoids: Phytocannabinoids and endocannabinoids. Phytocannabinoids are those produced by cannabis/marijuana/hemp, while endocannabinoids are made by the human body. This series covers both.
Newly Discovered Cannabinoids
Although the research is too new to include them in this list, students should be aware of the discovery of two novel phytocannabinoids with unique characteristics called CBDH and THCH. A single rodent study conducted in 2020 involving mice has indicated that CBDH may be a powerful analgesic (pain reducer), but more research—including clinical trials involving humans—are necessary before this can be stated with confidence.
A 2020 study discovered two new cannabinoids, CBDB and THCB. 'The researchers isolated the THCB molecule from the flower of a cannabis plant and applied the latest technology and investigative methods to learn more about this cannabinoid. The scientists explained that THCB displays a molecular binding affinity, or attraction, for the human CB1 and CB2 receptors "comparable to that of delta-9 THC."
The 25 Most Important Cannabinoids
This research-based series teaches students about the 25 most important cannabinoids available on the legal and underground markets in North America. 24 of these cannabinoids are naturally occurring. Many of these cannabinoids are present in only very small volumes in modern hybridized hemp and cannabis cultivars (typically one percent or less) and products formulated with concentrated extractions of them are often rare.
