Welcome to the master page for the Cannabis for Anxiety Seminar at Higher Learning LV. This seminar provides students with a deep dive into the topic of the potential efficacy of cannabis and its constituent chemical compounds (primarily cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids) for one of the most common modern medical conditions, anxiety.

Cannabis for Anxiety includes a dozen homework assignments that are crafted from exclusive study summaries based on only the most recent peer-reviewed research studies as published in reputable medical and scientific journals.

Pathway to Core Cannabis Course

For students wanting a more detailed examination of the potential medicinal efficacy of cannabis or those seeking certification, Higher Learning LV's Core Cannabis course is comprised of 34 homework assignments and is the prerequisite for our forthcoming Cannabis Foundation course that qualifies students for our Cannabis Foundation Certificate Exam.


Homework Assignments

The following 12 homework assignments total more than 17,600 words, the equivalent of about a 40-page book. The speed at which different students complete homework assignments is extremely variable, so we do not feature time estimates for our seminars.

Homework 1.1 — Cannabis for Anxiety Overview

This Overview homework assignment provides students with the summaries of six important 2023 studies regarding the potential efficacy of cannabis for anxiety.

2023 Cannabis for Anxiety & OCD Study

A 2023 study entitled "Single Cannabidiol Administration Affects Anxiety-, Obsessive compulsive-, Object Memory-, and Attention-like Behaviors in Mice in a Sex and Concentration Dependent Manner" that was published in the journal Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior explored whether a single injection of CBD affected anxiety-like or attention-like behavior or memory in wildtype mice or mice with reported trait anxiety.

2023 Cannabis for Anxiety in Adolescents Study

A 2023 study entitled "Efficacy of Cannabinoids in Neurodevelopmental and Neuropsychiatric Disorders Among Children and Adolescents: A Systematic Review" that was published in the journal European Child and Adolescent Psychiatry explored the topic of the rationale and current clinical trial evidence for cannabinoid-based products (CBPs) "in the treatment of neuropsychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders in children and adolescents."

2022 Cannabis for Anxiety Study in the U.K.

A 2022 study entitled "UK Medical Cannabis Registry: An Analysis of Clinical Outcomes of Medicinal Cannabis Therapy for Generalized Anxiety Disorder" that was published in the journal Expert Review of Clinical Pharmacology explored the "changes in health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and clinical safety following cannabis-based therapy for generalized anxiety disorder.

2019 Cannabis for PTSD Anxiety Study

A 2019 study entitled "Use of Medicinal Cannabis and Synthetic Cannabinoids in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder" that was published in the journal Medicina investigated "the clinical and therapeutic potentials of medical cannabis and synthetic cannabinoids in treating patients."

2018 Cannabis for Anxiety Study

A 2018 study entitled "Cannabis and the Anxiety of Fragmentation—A Systems Approach for Finding an Anxiolytic Cannabis Chemotype" that was published in the journal Frontiers in Neuroscience explored the ability of cannabis to treat anxiety.

2015 Cannabis for Anxiety Study

A 2015 study entitled "Targeting the Endocannabinoid System to Treat Anxiety-Related Disorders" that was published in the Journal of Basic and Clinical Physiology and Pharmacology investigated the role that may be played by the human ECS in the treatment of anxiety and anxiety-related disorders.

Homework 1.2 — Cannabis for Obsessive-compulsive Disorder

A 2023 study entitled "Use of Selective Alternative Therapies for Treatment of OCD" that was published in the journal Neuropsychiatric Disease and Treatment explored the efficacy and side effects of a number of alternative treatments for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), including cannabis, psilocybin, nicotine, and morphine. This homework assignment focuses on the cannabis data from this study.

Homework 1.3 — Cannabis for Pain Patients With and Without Anxiety

A 2023 study entitled "Comparing the Effects of Medical Cannabis for Chronic Pain Patients With and Without Comorbid Anxiety: A Cohort Study" that was published in the journal Expert Review of Neurotherapeutics investigated the effects of cannabis on two groups of chronic pain patients, those with and without anxiety. The research explored the health-related quality of life, potential adverse events, and changes in opioid medication consumption between the two groups.

Homework 1.4 — Cannabis for Anxiety in Childhood Mental Health Disorders

A 2023 article entitled "Medicinal Cannabis for Pediatric Developmental, Behavioral, and Mental Health Disorders" that was published in the journal Environmental Research and Public Health reviewed the evidence base for medical cannabis for pediatric developmental, behavioural, and mental health conditions."

Homework 1.5 — Cannabis for Anxiety, Pain, PTSD, & MS

A 2023 study entitled "Preliminary Findings from Project Twenty21 Australia: An Observational Study of Patients Prescribed Medicinal Cannabis for Chronic Pain, Anxiety, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, and Multiple Sclerosis" that was published in the journal Drug Science investigated the potential efficacy of cannabis for a range of conditions, including anxiety, pain, PTSD, and MS.

Homework 1.6 — Safety & Clinical Outcomes Among U.K. Medical Cannabis Patients

A 2023 study entitled "An Observational Study of Safety and Clinical Outcome Measures Across Patient Groups in the United Kingdom Medical Cannabis Registry" that was published in the journal Expert Review of Clinical Pharmacology explored the potential efficacy of medical cannabis for anxiety. All participants were enrolled in the United Kingdom Medical Cannabis Registry.

Homework 1.7 — THC & Adolescence Anxiety Study

A 2023 study entitled "Impaired Ghrelin Signaling Does Not Lead to Alterations of Anxiety-like Behaviors in Adult Mice Chronically Exposed to THC during Adolescence" that was published in the journal Biomedicines explored the responses of rodent subjects (mice) to chronic THC administration during adolescence.

Homework 1.8 — Hemp Seeds for Anxiety & Depression

A 2023 Korean study entitled "The Effects of Hemp Seed Consumption on Depression, Anxiety, and Cognitive Improvement Based on Machine Learning" that was published in the journal Archive of Food and Nutritional Science stated that its purpose was to "confirm the antioxidant effects of hemp seed as a functional food that affects psychological state and cognitive function." The research reported that, globally, hemp seeds are commonly employed as a source of food and dietary supplements.

Homework 1.9 — Effects of Inhaled Delta-9 THC on the Aging Brain

A 2023 study entitled "Effects of Inhaled Cannabis Rich in Delta-9 THC or CBD on the Aging Brain: A Translational MRI and Behavioral Study" that was published in the journal Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience investigated the potential effects of delta-9 THC on the aging brain and potential outcomes for those who suffer anxiety.

Homework 1.10 — Cannabinoids for Childhood Psychiatric Disorders

A 2023 Australian study entitled "Efficacy of Cannabinoids in Neurodevelopmental and Neuropsychiatric Disorders Among Children and Adolescents: A Systematic Review" that was published in the journal European Child & Adolescent Psychiatry provided a "systematic review of the rationale and current clinical trial evidence for cannabinoid-based products (CBPs) in the treatment of neuropsychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders in children and adolescents."

Homework 1.11 — 2023 State of the Art

A 2023 Brazilian study entitled "Cannabis – A State of The Art About the Millenary Plant: Part I" that was published in the journal Forensic Chemistry explored a wide range of aspects of cannabis in modern society and dated the medicinal use of this herb back to 2700 BCE in Asia. This broad scientific investigation detailed the history of cannabis, including its medicinal use globally and the core scientific milestones associated with the modern understanding of the herb.
